“I Would Die 4 U” by Prince
For years and years I never bothered listening to Prince or looking into his music, and I’ve come to realize that it’s really quite good! Speculation about this song says it’s an allegory about Christ or some shit, but it’s so hushed and generally stupendous that the heady morals never interfere with the song’s sensual rush. If anything, the Prince-qua-Savior concept—I would die for you!—is quite sexy.
I’ve posted this song before but I’m re-posting it now because it’s my favorite Prince song, and what I consider to be one of Prince’s best songs. Really though, it’s the best. Tristan describes the song as having a “sensual rush” which is exactly how I feel every time I listen to it. The unfortunate thing about it though is the fact that it ends so soon. There is not enough of the goodness to go around. Listening to it requires an automatic repeat.
