“I’ll Get You” by Classixx featuring Beppe (Royal Rumble Edit)
We went to one party and then we ended up at another, a party promoter’s loft in Wicker Park. No one smoked inside of the space but when we looked at photos taken during the night, it was difficult to distinguish setting and figures.
I brought a bottle of prosecco to the first party, which we quickly finished. At the loft, a girl mixed a vodka with a splash of cranberry, the way most suitable to the college-age version of myself.
An hour later, I danced atop four stacked mattresses to this song. It was the first time I heard it, or remember hearing it, but the melody was immediately familiar and coupled with the setting - an elaborate costume, a stiff drink, a crowded apartment - created a heady feeling of nostalgia, of the ease of college life and the ability to keep pushing forward: hungrily, greedily, constantly.
I would normally claim that anything Classixx touches is perfect, but this edit was my first experience with “I’ll Get You,” and a part of me can’t deny that the deeper bass and the fuller sound make the song the sort of dynamic powerhouse that I come to crave as the temperatures go down.
