Stream 'Tramp' by Sharon Van Etten

What is it, that thing about Sharon Van Etten’s voice? I’ve been trying to figure it out for the past months and I can’t quite articulate why she is so compelling. There’s this apparent detachment, but further listening suggests a vulnerability in her lyrics and little moments of catharsis in her intonation. None of her words are reckless, but she invokes this sort of desperate spirit that feels very familiar and true. I listen to her sing and I connect immediately. It’s a rare feeling, I believe. There is so much music to consume that we rarely leave time to digest one album or one song with any form of patience and respect. And because there is so much of it, we are often left to hear, but not really listen.

I love this album.
