“Ascending Melody” by Dirty Projectors

I am, perhaps, in the minority in preferring the voices of the women in Dirty Projectors to Dave’s but I am okay with that, especially considering how right they sound together. On “Ascending Melody,” a previously unreleased track on the group’s new Temecula Sunrise/Cannibal Resource EP, the voices come together to produce a song that is better than some of the tracks that did make Bitte Orca (and I loved Bitte Orca. !SPOILER ALERT! It is one of my favorite albums of the year). Parts of the instrumentation remind of Mambo Nassau by Lizzy Mercier Descloux, or perhaps I am so enamored with Lizzy that I try to identify influence where there is none. Either way, this is lovely.
