I wrote again about nail art, but this time centralizing the story to the city of Chicago. Acrylics and drags, hypersegregation, and class all play a major role in the development of nail art here. The story also focuses on photographer Helen Maureen Cooper, her experiences as a white artist trying to become a part of Chicago’s exclusive community, and the perils of cultural tourism. There’s a lot here and I plan on doing a follow-up soon. Consider this part one.
